I engage in more than my share of spirited debates (... arguments, fights, whatever) with those of the "other" political bent. But I have to admit that sometimes it's just exhausting.
It's not like I'm out in the street leading chants with a bullhorn or anything, but when I think about some of the heated exchanges I've had with longtime friends over stupid shit that none of us can control, it's almost embarrassing.
And yet, every night, there's Sean Hannity's smug smirk shaking his well-coiffed head disapprovingly at yet another "outrage" uttered by some stupid, shortsighted liberal.
I'm not sure when I realized it, but there are an AWFUL lot of books out there fanning the flames of Left vs. Right. Dozens of authors have sold millions of copies of books that offer NO chance at reconciliation between the ideologies. No common ground.
Anyone who buys into their incessant bullshit is being played. Make up your own mind. You can't possibly agree with Rush Limbaugh, or Air America, 100 percent of the time. If you do, you're as unthinking as you accuse the "other" side of being. And if you don't ... then there may be hope for our nation yet.
